Being the first of a trilogy of books written by Joseph Sugarman, it is one of the best examples of marketing explained. As hinted in the book title, the focus is on written form of advertising, and while the format of full page ads in respected publications have been happening long before he wrote this book, he is definitely among the forms biggest advocates.
This book reads partly like a biography but also educational with hard learned marketing lessons shared, along with his own philosophical perspective. There is a sense of genuineness that pervades this book, his appendices show a number of advertisements he had made in the past, both successful ads and examples of one’s which failed, complete with speculations for why they did. For an established marketer like Sugarman to display his imperfections so honestly is admirable.
Sugarman also details many tricks of the trade, methods which may well save hundreds or even thousands of pounds for the budding marketer. It is a book that you can put to immediate use, it is a recommended book to read, and one which you should refer to regularly.
